Through the Refining Fires of Affliction to the New Life of Spiritual Spring:

REST, VESSEL. ~ “Requies, Vas.” ~ A VESSEL RESTS.

“A Vessel Rests”

A vessel rests in the will of her Lord.

Stanza 20, Lines 3-4

Having reached the depth of this mystery,
Fully assured of Christ’s pleading for me,
Yielded an instrument in God’s own hand,
To Him only can I answer and plan.

Scripture and Commentary May 11, 2023

Divine love is complete; by sin’s death it reigns
To crush condemnation, guilt, and shame.
Over such weighty foes, twisting of good
Just one would triumph-ONLY Jesus could.

Scripture and Commentary May 12, 2023

So here I stand, sorrowful but secure
In the wounds of my Savior, true and pure.
The Sovereign Lord’s Spirit is upon me
To bind up the broken-hearteds’ weeping.

Scripture and Commentary May 13, 2023

For this I am sent to love in each place,
To shepherd young hearts in God’s strength and grace
To tell the truth and see each dear person
In God’s own image, preciously fashioned.

Scripture and Commentary May 14, 2023

Completely surrendered, I teach and serve,
Watching and praying that I might discern
God’s consolation of rest for each soul,
My suff’ring to steward to soothe somes’ woes.

Scripture and Commentary May 15, 2023

Good news and freedom for all to perceive,
Their beauty and brilliance wrought by our King,
Honored and favored, seen, known, heard, adored,
Commending each gift giv’n by our dear Lord.

Scripture and Commentary May 16, 2023

Just how are these mysteries brought to the light?
Just how are conveyed such joy and delight?
Sweet glimpses of glory tucked deep within
Watered, cultivated…new growth to win.

Scripture and Commentary May 17, 2023

The Teacher’s eye ever searches to see.
The Teacher’s ear listens to perceive.
The Teacher’s heart feels both hope and pain.
The Teacher reaches with words to sustain.

Scripture and Commentary May 18, 2023

Not just words from one’s own tongue to prepare,
Human responses fall short to repair.
The heart, mind, and soul in the grips of defeat
Well-instructed Sovereign Words giv’n for meat.

Scripture and Commentary May 19, 2023

What portion suits, what banquets’ prepared?
To satiate the hunger buried there?
’Tis a delicate wonder to begin,
Reaching another’s crevices within.

Scripture and Commentary May 20, 2023

Desperate prayers are needed; none less suffice.
To feed the yearning, to ease every cry.
None are the same, must wisely measured be
Some knowable…light, some cloaked…heavy.

Scripture and Commentary May 21, 2023

Now here’s the treading on dangerous ground.
Do not draw too near; great dread will be found.
To see a need, and the more grave it be
Sharpens the arrows of our enemy.

Scripture and Commentary May 22, 2023

Ready to puncture and twist victories
He lurks in the shadows; he aims to grieve.
The one dispensing the medicine true,
The proper dose that each patient is due.

Scripture and Commentary May 23, 2023

Not every ill the same balm will relieve.
Discern first the wound, then the remedy
Must ever so carefully be applied.
No more, no less than what needs be prescribed.

Scripture and Commentary May 24, 2023

Jehovah Rapha, Great Physician—He,
The only Healer chose so graciously
To uncover a need understood well,
Familiar language…sought to bear the fell.

Scripture and Commentary May 25, 2023

At first it was simple, easy, and light.
As it grew nearer, the heart grew affright,
The vessel broke open:  word-flooding cries,
Sneering, jeering in a conscience’s disguise.

Scripture and Commentary May 26, 2023

This child of God with the real conscience clean,
Though zealously practiced sought to redeem
Godly consolation midst suffering
Through unseen striving by God’s hearkening.

Scripture and Commentary May 27, 2023

Such long labors can hardly be explained
Or understood by others-easy to blame!
Concealed is the work, the Spirit’s travail
Seeing and loving that peace may avail.

Scripture and Commentary May 28, 2023

Should the vessel question the potter’s hand?
Though of its very life it may demand
Humiliation, despising, and shame,
Even the questioning of own’s own name?

Scripture and Commentary May 29, 2023

No, broken and poured out to minister—
The Word of Reconciliation heard.
Come what may, be it rejection…restored…
A vessel rests in the will of her Lord.
