Our Story
Birthed in October 2013 in prayerful response to a speaking invitation, after decades of creative and meditative labor, “Freedom in The Word” would be given a name! In answer to this invitational prayer in 2013, the Lord led Carla Weist to chronicle her first set of original Alphabetical Scripture-Song melodies, “Many Seeds”, to subsequently share as a retreat speaker.
For both Pat and Carla Weist, this new ministry vision in 2013 followed over two decades of composing and ministering sacred music both in their home and corporate worship settings orchestrated by the Lord who brought them together for His ordained melodies and harmonies from the time they met in 1990 and were married in 1992 to the present. The Weists have enjoyed music ministry together throughout their thirty-plus years of marriage. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” II Corinthians 9:15 NKJV
Following God’s invitation to share new songs rooted in His Word, 2014 brought additional outreach for teaching at women’s retreats and children’s ministry. 2015-2016 were wonderful years of releasing these Alphabetical “Many Seeds” in local churches, teaching the youngest members to worship the Lord through memorizing and singing His Word and sign language. 2017 brought a new season and thus the new ministry partners who have dedicated themselves to sowing seeds in the fields of “Freedom In The Word” alongside Pat and Carla Weist.

To date “Freedom in The Word” has released fourteen original songs on all music-streaming platforms, including Alphabetical Songs A-I: “Many Seeds 1” and our debut EP “Everlasting Testimonies 1”, which highlights Scriptures of meditation, rest, thanksgiving, dwelling in the Word of Christ, glorifying God, and freedom in His Name: Jehovah, “I AM”. Alphabetical Songs J-Z are in their final stages of recording production. Once these are completed and released, “Freedom in The Word” will continue compiling their next musical release: “Everlasting Testimonies II” in their own recording studio that the Lord has abundantly supplied!
From 2013 to present the planted seeds of “Freedom in The Word” continue to germinate and sprout on many stages: Small Group Gatherings, Hospitality, Family Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Camp Ministry, Retreats, Corporate Worship, Concerts, Workshops, Curriculum Development and Implementation, Scripture-based Art and Jewelry Designs, An Interactive Website, Daily Meditational Posts, Narrative and Poetic Presentations of Scripture, and Ministry-Tool Merchandise.
Ministering to people of all ages through the five learning modalities: Musical (Voices and Instruments), Visual (Staging, Costumes, Props, and Original Scripture Depictions by Jenne Cornett), Auditory (Scriptural Teaching and Audience Responses), Linguistic (The Written Word), and Kinesthetic (Sign Language, Interpretive Movement, and Dance). The heart of “Freedom in The Word” is meditation on God’s Word in song as artistic teaching and encouragement, corporate worship, and a personal memory tool.

TESTIMONY TIMELINE: MINISTRY EVENTS/CONCERTS
-1990-Present-Carla composes Scripture Song melodies to memorize God’s Word and give others a tool for memorizing Scripture.
-1992-2003-Pat and Carla Weist share original songs at Chapel by the Sea for special music as “Freedom From Self”.
-2003-2012-Pat and Carla minister on the Chapel by the Sea Worship Team; “Spiritual Therapy”, out of Chapel by the Sea, shares original music at local community events; for the years CBS hosts VBS, Carla leads the music, which incorporates song and sign language with Scripture.
-October 2013-Carla is invited to lead a women’s retreat in FL; Alphabetical Scripture-Song Compilation begins: “Freedom in The Word” is born!
-2014-2015-”Freedom in The Name and In the Word”: Women’s Retreats in Florida and on the Crystal Coast; Children’s Ministry Outreach on the Crystal Coast through Life Church in Atlantic Beach and Classical Conversations at Cape Carteret Baptist Church; Introduction of “Many Seeds”- FITW’s Alphabetical Scripture Songs in various settings to include writing and hosting a small group home study.
